THE
GREAT PUMPKIN
Bostonians would
join Linus and wait all night long for the Great Pumpkin to
arrive if it meant we could eat foods made with the hardy
gourd year ’round. Fortunately, the arrival of fall means
area restaurants have our pumpkin cravings covered—and
they’ve gone way beyond pie.
- PUMPKINHEAD ALE AT
BOSTON BEER WORKS
61 Brookline Ave., 617-536-2337; 112 Canal St.,
617-896-2337. A little pumpkin goes a long way with this
orange-tinged ale available only during autumn. Flavored
with vanilla and spices, it smells and looks as good as
it tastes.
- PUMPKIN ICE CREAM AT
CHRISTINA’S
1255 Cambridge St., Cambridge, 617-492-7021. It may
seem chilly for ice cream, but the popular pumpkin
flavor created just for fall is worth putting on an
extra layer for.
- PUMPKIN SPICE CHAI AT
TEALUXE
108 Newbury St., 617-927-0400; 0 Brattle St.,
Cambridge, 617-441-0077. A little less sweet than your
average chai and made with black tea, pumpkin, spices
and milk, this drink is so popular that it’s now
available all year ’round and is perfect for warming
your belly when the temperatures drop.
- PUMPKIN TARTLET AT
EXCELSIOR
272 Boylston St., 617-426-7878. Chef Lydia Shire knows
how to dazzle when cooking with local ingredients and
this dessert made from spiced pumpkin and spun sugar is
no exception.
- PUMPKIN PANCAKES AT
SORELLA’S
388 Centre St., Jamaica Plain, 617-524-2016. There’s
no better way to start your day than with a stack of
these hearty pancakes, seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg
and topped with whipped cream and maple syrup.
